Curriculum

curriculumThe Instrumental Master Class in Litomyšl offers one of the most intensive master classes anywhere. Each student receives:

Six individual lessons of 60 minutes duration with Profs. Milan Vitek and Michael Malmgreen, four evening workshops with all students and both Professors present as well as the opportunity to perform the repertoire they have studied at several of eight public concerts in Litomyšl and cities throughout the region.

An opening concert will take place in the Smetana House at the end of the first week, with performers selected by the faculty. During the third week, lessons will be given in an open classroom setting as dress rehearsals for the final public concerts with all participants present. The final week of the master class will feature six public concerts, with each of the individual participants performing at least one of the pieces that they have studied during the master class.

 

Transportation

pivovarParticipants must plan their arrival at Prague Airport on Sunday, July 24th, no later than 3:00 p.m. if they wish to take the free bus to Litomyšl chartered by the International String Master Class, which will depart from the airport for Litomyšl once everyone scheduled to arrive by 3:00 p.m. is on board.

The return trip to Prague Airport will likewise be by chartered bus, departing Litomyšl early in the morning on Sunday, August 14th. Participants should reserve departure flights no earlier than 11 a.m. for European departures and 12 a.m. for departures to the United States and other continents.

Participants who book flights or other transport arriving later than 3:00 p.m. on July 24th or departing earlier than 11 a.m. on August 14th will be responsible for planning and paying for their own transport to or from Litomyšl.


Fees

• Early registration 1,700 Euro for active participants when registering by April 15th, 2023.
• 2,200 Euro for active participants when registering by May 1st, 2023.

Fees include: Lessons, rehearsal time with the accompanist and all joint bus transport. Once paid, all fees are non-refundable except if international Covid-19 travel restrictions include mandatory quarantine in the Czech Republic upon arrival. Should this be the case, students will receive a full refund except for the application fee or have the option to participate in distance classes via Zoom at a reduced rate (see below).

Students are strongly encouraged to take out a travel cancellation insurance policy immediately upon registering to obtain a refund if illness or other circumstances prohibit them from participating in the Master Class after they have signed up.

Online Application Procedure

ubytovaniApplicants must submit a filled-out online application form (please read the instructions on the application form webpage carefully first).

A 50 Euro non-refundable application fee is due upon completing the registration form, made using a credit card through the secure Paypal website. Please note that your application submission will not be complete until this payment is confirmed.

Students may change the repertoire submitted online by sending an email to the Communications Director no later than one month prior to the start of the master class. After this time, study repertoire changes will not be permitted unless approved by the accompanist.

A recent video recording of approx. 15 min. playing time featuring a movement for solo violin by Bach or a Paganini Caprice and a fast movement from a concerto or a sonata must be posted on YouTube (full privacy settings are an option) with the link(s) entered on the online application form. Applicants are required to submit a video unless they are:

• Master Class participants from prior years.

All applicants must submit a narrative biography outlining studies, achievements and a repertoire list, submitted as a MS Word or PDF format as well as a JPG headshot photo of themselves using the online application form of themselves. The headshot photos do not need to be professionally made but should of the applicant only (no group shots with the applicant in them).

Application Deadlines

All prospective students and passive participants must submit a fully completed online application form and other materials by March 1st to receive the 500 Euro early registration discount, and no later than May 1st, 2023.

Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as qualified students are admitted on a first-come first-serve basis. Single and double rooms, of which there is a limited amount available, will likewise be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis.

Successful applicants will be notified of their participation status in writing by email within two to three weeks after the application deadlines.

Applicants must remit a tuition deposit of 500 Euro within a week of receiving their notification of acceptance. Final payment of all remaining fees is due June 1st, 2023.

Payment must be done via bank transfer; the Master Class cannot process credit card or other forms of payment.

If we receive your payment with transfer or other bank fees deducted, you will be informed about the balance of your payment by email prior to the Master Class. In order not to incur additional transfer fees, you can pay the difference between the transfer and the full fee in cash (Euros), payable at the Master Class office, upon arrival in Litomyšl.

Students wishing to avoid multiple bank transfer fees may remit the entire tuition fee amount by the deposit deadlines. Students who do not meet payment deadlines may lose their place as participants in the class. It is strongly recommended that applicants take out travel insurance covering their fees at the same time as they remit their deposit or full payment in case illness or injury prevents them from participating in the master class after their fees have been paid.
